NWMS Philanthropy is committed to medical education and physician wellness. Though a non-profit entity that appreciates and is grateful for our sponsors and donors of our programs, NWMS feels it own responsibility to give back. The medical society has a 501(c)(3) philanthropic fund for receiving grants and supporting our missions. The philanthropic committee has identified medical education, for both students and licensed clinicians, as well as physician wellness to be the primary causes for financial support from NWMS. Our current philanthropic programs:
Western Washington University Pre-Med Scholarship
Endowed in the 1980s, this scholarship fund gives financial aid to a qualified WWU student pursuing a pre-med major with plans to continue post-graduate education in medical school.
This newly created wellness program helps society provide anonymous, free mental health care for physicians who may not seek treatment. About 65% of Physicians suffer from burnout, and LifeBridge can be the first responder to physicians in crisis.
NWMS first launched its Providers of Color Affinity Group (POCAG) in 2017. Since 2019, POCAG has advocated alongside the North Sound Race and Health Equity Conference and Annual Scholarship, designed to support students of color in obtaining a medical degree.
Your support matters. The NWMS has a non-profit 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsorship through The Chuckanut Health Foundation which allows for tax-deductible donations and grants to support the society's mission.
